After hearing praises for her books, I finally bought the first Janet Evanovich book "One for the Money". I had to wait this long because I hadn't found this first one - and now that I'm almost through I can see why Gilbert said to start with the first.
It took me a while to get into it, takes a whole different mind frame to go from J A Jance's Joanah Brady (sp? on everything) to Evanovich's Stephanie Plum but it finally took off and flew for me. I just love it!
Today, I bought books 2 through 5 and number 7 - our Fred Meyer store had new releases of a bunch of her books and I wanted to be stocked up. They didn't have #6, so I'll have to keep looking.
Anyway - thanks for the steer in her direction, I am truly enjoying this book.

Don't forget the library. They have tons of her books. The only book of hers I read was "Plum Spooky." It was so funny I even bought it for my daughter. It has a weird monkey in it and my daughter happens to like sock monkeys (ick). This monkey in the book is very smart and downright sassy. I may try some other books of hers.

Adele and I are waiting for book 16 in the Stephanie Plum series. The in between the series book such as Plum Spooky are totally off the wall funny but a bit hard to believe. I would say almost fantasy books. For less humor in mysteries you might like David Baldacci's Camel Club series (Oliver Stone and company). There are only three or four books in that series but again you really need to start with number one, The Camel Club. One of the things I really like about the Plum series is that some of the characters will come back in later books.
Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we're
here we should dance.
In heaven there is no beer
That's why we're drinking it here
And when we're gone from here
All our friends will be drinking all our beer.
Let the Gemutlichkeit roll on. Ein Prosit.
Life is too short to drink cheap beer.

So Plum Spooky isn't part of a series? As I said, it's the only one I've read. It's not believable but it was funny. For other funny mysteries I enjoy Joanne Fluke, Leslie Meier and Tamar Myers (the culinary types) and Nero Blanc does some with a cross word theme.
For more serious mysteries I go for Robin Cook, Patricia Cornwell and the Preston/Child books. There are so many others I could list but I won't do that to you.

I love David Baldacci's books and have read as many as I could get ahold of, Patricia Cornewll and Lee Child too (is that the "Child" you're referring to Irene?). I also love JA Jance's books, both the Joanna Brady and the JP Beaumont series. Another couple of authors I like are Greg Iles and Michael Connelly. I also have a whole slew of other "favorite" authors though I'm always trying new ones and adding to my list.

Irene, Evanovich has a series of books that follow holiday themes like Chirstmas, Easter and Halloween that are extra to the Stephanie Plum series. Like you said they are not all that believable but fun to read. Some of the characters such as Diesel seem to have super powers as he seems to be a bounty hunter from another dimension.

I am so darned hooked on the Plum series that it's ridiculous!
I ended up ordering online the books I haven't been able to find in the bookstores, which will take me through #14.
I have #15 on back order - it will be released in paperback on 6/22 which is when #16 will be released in hardback.
I probably will get #16 from the library to read, as I don't buy hardbacks and I doubt I'll be able to wait a whole year for it to come out in paperback.

We have to put our name on the waiting list at the library when one of her new books comes out. I think the library people get them first.
