Hello,
I'm Matt.
A little bit bought my self I guess. I was born with ventricular cardio-myopathy.
Back then they called it IHSS. I have had a myectomy and I have been suggested to get an ICD.
anyone have any ICD stories, advice. I get all the technical jar-gain. How is my life gonna change? My heart has never really limited me. I have been super lucky. I play a wind instrument, ski, hike, kayak.
Thanks
Stay cool
Matt

Hi Matt, welcome!
I was born with a heart defect also, a ventricular septal defect, and had surgery to correct it when I was 18. Today, I have lots of arrhythmias and they want to put in a pacemaker but can't because I'm too high risk.
I don't know anything about ICDs but we have members here with them who hopefully will get back to you with some advice.
All my best,
Denise

Hi Matt,
I've had an ICD for 7 years now. It's at the end of it time so I need to decide if to get a new one or just take the whole thing out. After the last talk with the doc I've found out there is a lot more to these things that I've heard before. If you have any particular questions post them here. I'll be back later today to say more.

And when we're gone from here

The thing about my ICD is that it has never been used other than check ups four times a year which I do from the house over the phone. Make sure at least two doctors say that you really need one. I have talked to my cardio/EP and have the option of not having another one put in to replace the one who's time has come. Seven years is the usual limit before replacement and most of the time just the generator and not the wires need replacing. However 14 years is the life of the wires and then they will have to come out. I will soon just have everything taken out and nothing put back in.
The thing about taking these out is that the tissue around the leads tend to grab onto the leads making extraction somewhat risky. To check out this part do a search on laser lead extraction.
Other than a couple of recalls I've never had a problem with my ICD other than restrictions. I get to go to the head of the line at the airports but can't be within 25 feet of a slot machine so no trips to the casino here. You will receive all the cautions when you get yours. I do however like the idea of the added security of having a defib device on the scene.

Hello, and welcome!
Can you tell us a little about yourself? I'm very hesitant to click on the link you have, since I don't really know it's source.
Thanks,
Denise
