I don't know if I'd said before, but I ended up spending a day in ER the beginning of July because the vision disturbances came back. They did a carotid study and an echo and I passed both (yay!).
I saw a retinal specialist today for follow up and she said I need to make an appointment with my cardio to make sure I don't need another Transesophageal echocardiogram (I have his appointment tomorrow) to check for return of the heart tumor.
I saw my internist today also and she ordered tons of lab work and also a brain MRI because among other things (like coagulation probs, lupus, artery inflammation) she (only slightly, whew) suspects MS from my symptoms.
When the nurse set up the MRI she said it had to be done not at their facility but at the hospital because of my chest wires. :o !!!!!! Has anyone here had an MRI done after they've had open heart surgery? I now picture my chest wires ripping my ribs apart as they are pulled from my body (can you tell I have an active imagination, lol).
Also, are MRIs very scary to have? Looks like they're scheduling it for Friday evening if my insurance gives authorization.
Thanks,
Denise

:signs007[1]: Ditto to what Heidi said.

My dad was unable to have an MRI after bypass and I've been told the same thing since I'm a bypasser too!
Thank you God for another day of life. Help me to make the most of it and send me someone I can help today.

Oh Denise, I know this has to be very frightening for you! You are in my thoughts and my prayers! Please keep us informed about what they find out! Hopefully, they are just being very cautious and want to rule out all possiblities that a heart tumor has returned. God Bless, Pat

Thanks for the advice and kind words.
It's interesting from what everyone has been told, because from what I'm now looking up on the internet they say that it's okay to have MRI if you have sternal wires!
Duh!!! Dang this post pump brain of mine :fool: ...I just realized I have an appointment with my cardio tomorrow and he's supposed to be good and if anyone would know if an MRI is okay with sternal wires it would certainly be him!!!
I'll let you know what he says.
Love you all,
Dumb Denise

Off the top of my head Denise, I would call and get a confirmation on what you are having. I would double check the verbage to make sure you are not having a CAT scan, instead of an MRI or vice versa because people get those confused all the time. Once we find out beyond a shadow of a doubt we can go from there :common076[1]:

I know for sure it's an MRI because I asked her what it was like and she said it's like a CAT scan (which I've never had either) except that when the magnets start banging it bothers a lot of people and that contributes to claustrophobia. I don't think I have claustrophobia except one time I went to put on a motorcycle helmet and couldn't because of the feeling of being closed in. She also double made sure that I don't have a pacemaker, worked with metal (?), and something else which I can't remember.

Probably an ICD was the other. Part of our new section :common076[1]: Well for now all I can say is that is if your having one with an older model, they are god awful. Lot of noise and they make you very, very, claustrophobic. You will wish this :faint: BUT if they got the newer version that will be more tolerable. In fact they spent millions on advertising to get the word out that they were better, thats how much people hated them :omg: . So I guess, I have to have faith that your Doctors know what they are doing, as you know you got one of the best in that area soooooooo, go with it. And hope this does not happen  .

You know I am kidding you gotta laugh alittle to get through this crap. I will call my daughter, she knows alittle more about this than me and see what I can find out. I will get back with you. Can you please send me a phone number if you can find out where this event is going to take place please? Thanks and willbe in touch. :cheers1:

I saw my cardio today and he said as far as he knows there shouldn't be any problem with the sternal wires. Heidi, it's good to hear about someone else who's had MRIs with sternal wires. Jerry I've emailed you, thanks.
Bad news is the cardio thinks we need to definitely rule out a return of the Myxoma and he wasn't satisfied with the regular echocardiograms so he is going to do a Transesophageal Echo (yuck) as soon as they can schedule it when he is the attending so he can do it himself.
I can sure use prayers that the procedure goes well and also that the Myxoma hasn't come back.
I'm quite worried about all of this, to say the least.

Star, the open MRI with music even doesn't sound too bad! Hope if you have to get one it will be this kind Denise! :) Thank goodness your doctors are being real cautious so that is good. Will keep praying for you and I sure hope they know soon so you don't have to go through the wondering too long! Hugs, Pat
